The Future of Madison

Walking Madison and seeing how it is now and how it has changed over time, you start to wonder how it will adjust to future trends. Looking at plans of Madison in the future, its easy to find plans that accommodate public and environmentally friendly transportation, urban growth, and minority growth. Shown to the right is already a multi use road with a lane for cars, a sidewalk for pedestrians, and a protected bike path. Madison is already known as a big city for bikers but this is expected to increase. Madison's B-cycle Bike Sharing Program provides rental bikes you can take from one sharing location to the next. As you can see in the Regional Transportation Plan for 2035, this program is expected to expand as biking is a green and efficient mode of transportation. They also are making improvements in public transportation and have special consideration and focus on minority areas. Cities need to become sustainable with the trend of urban growth. Along with this, considering that the majority of babies will be of minority race by 2020, this is a group that cannot be overlooked or discluded in future planning.

Conclusion and Future

Conclusion

Opening your eyes and walking the path I have set on this tour, you get a feel for Madison, WI, a place I have called home my entire life. Looking at the history and change Madison has seen I won't be able to walk the downtown or surrounding areas the same again. Observing your surroundings from an analytical and exploratory mindset can open your eyes to new things. I am looking forward to see what stays and what changes with Madison as a city in the future.
